Luke will be missed in TO. He had a couple of tough seasons but has a ton of potential.

Kind of funny how at least half of his responses had "good trade for both teams" in them.

But yeah certainly a mixed day. Will miss Schenn, but happy to be getting JVR. Certainly feels like an even kind of trade. Both sides giving up players who have had struggles, but have potential and contracts aren't that far off. Hopefully it works out for everyone.

Just out of curiosity...how much did whatever the situation with JvR's hip finally play into the willingness to trade him?

From the Versteeg deal to this, it's clear that Holmgren and Burke are on the same wavelength when evaluating players. JVR could dominate on a line with Colborne and Kulemin next fall if he's healthy.

Colborne (Nik Antropov 2.0) sucks and doesn't even dominate in the AHL...

Paul Holgren is easily the worst gm in hockey. I bet even Mike Milbury is making fun of him this morning. What a hilariously stupid trade. Even worse than that time he traded 2 of his best 3 players before their decade long contracts even kicked in and they went on to win the Cup. What a dud!!!

Good luck JVR. You will be missed. I thought JVR would be a major player for the Flyers for years, sad to see him go. It's tough to judge this trade right now. I haven't seen enough of Schenn to say it was a good trade for both sides.

The biggest problem I have with it is that it was the worst possible time to trade JVR. Last season was supposed to be a breakout year for him but injuries stole the season from him. His stock is as low now as it's been. I think he's going to have a big season this year. Why trade him now?? Oh well, as I said, good luck JVR and let's go Schenn! If he plays well for us we've got a good shut down guy with a manageable cap number. Hope this trade works out well for both teams.

Ranks with the Gilmour and Phaneuf trades. Such a lopsided trade it would be funny, except that I'm a leaf fan and it rocks. Interesting that media types want to cover themselves by saying things like "a good hockey trade" "works for both teams"

I wish someone had the balls to call this what it is: An absolute fleecing.

Really? I know very little about Schenn, but what I've read. Is he really that bad?? What's your assessment of him? JVR is gonna be a stud if he can stay healthy, no question about that. He's due for a breakout year and I think it's gonna come in his first season as a Leaf. I hope we're both happy with this trade in the coming years.

The kid is 22! And a defensmen nonetheless, let the kid grow under the wings of Chris Pronger. He just needed a change in scenery, as did JVR.

Schenn has struggled, but he's gonna be a good shutdown D. I'm more worried about JVR, he has more upside in the deal but is also more risky. I could see JVR doing better for the leafs than Schenn for the Flyers in initially, but Schenn outlasting JVR in the long run and giving the flyers more in terms of years.

ignore this guy. If Schenn returns to form you're getting one hell of d-man. Most of Leafs nation is sad to see him go.

I think the Leafs win this trade if JVR stays healthy.

Leaf nation loves Schenn, but the truth is that his foot speed is atrocious, and he gets consistantly burned by speedy wingers.

unfortunately, pronger's wings are clipped. we traded a potential 1st line winger for a guy whose ceiling is likely a #4 guy. we needed more back...TOR fans have a right to be thrilled. homers lack of patience will catch up to him at some point.

Think Dan Hamhuis when you think of Schenn. The kid hits like a freight train and really needs to be put soley in a shutdown role and not as guy who will sit back and cover for the other Dman so he can pinch. If the rumored deal of Schenn + for Luongo was true and Gillis didnt take it (or Lou said no) I am sad.. Kid is going to be a solid guy that you can count on.. He has a big shot too if he learns to use it more...

personally I am looking forward to the potentional of Schenn and am happy about that but on the flip side disappointed that it was JVR moved. I honestly feel as tho the kid will score 30-35. I love the combo of size and speed.

Agree with everything but the "big shot" comment. Watched him the last 4 years game in and game out and thats one thing he doesn't have

Lol that was a good one. When Jvr is injured the rest of next season because of his hip, is it still a bad trade? I think not

from a GM asset perspective, we sold JVR at about 6-7 cents on the dollar. this trade has potential to blow up in homers face big time...JVR is the better player and the more valuable asset- no question.

You're getting a total brute who will throw a lot of guys around. Just watch out for the giveaways in his own end. And his big shot is there, just usually telegraphed.
